An Observation

It has been a long down hill slide for the Friend’s Group, formed from what State Parks had called an Advisory Board in 2001.  Membership has steadily fallen and Tuesday’s Business Meeting had five members attend.  It was hoped to elect board members and fill two vacancies (VP has been open for two years) but alas there were no takers.

Having been around since that transformation in 2001, I have seen the same four or five members participate in nearly every friends sponsored activity and event.  Surely, others on occasion would lend a hand but the Friend’s Group has operated on the perseverance of this handful of dedicated Friends.

I would like to express my appreciation (in no particular order, except maybe by age) to those who carried the load over the years. Thank you Don Anderson, Sheldon Fox, Tim Brown, Joe Hanson, Kris Lindberg and Nancy Hokenson.  You did all you could.

   It was decided,

and unanimously approved by the members that the Friend’s would suspend normal operations.  We would continue to sponsor park events and programs, particularly the Halloween Spooktacular and Bluebird Workshops until the Friend’s Group funds were depleted.  After that the group would dissolve.  The two remaining board members volunteered to remain in place for administrative purposes.  Scheduled meetings and dues collection will cease.  The web site will remain for a time, although it will likely be modified.

Now we must be clear.  Volunteers to help at events and programs are always welcome.  In no way should this effect your decision to give your time to the park.  Please contact Diane Harvey, Park Naturalist, for opportunities and information.

With the suspension of operations, the WOBly Newsletter will no longer be issued.  The WEB Site will be maintained (for an undetermined time), but it will also reflect this change.  Relevant items of interest will be presented on the Newsletter Page.
